God's Kissing Booth. Devotional poetry inspired by Rumi and Hafiz.

God must wonder

what it will take to get

our attention.

Every moment, explosions of life

and hardly anyone bats an eye.

Riots of flowers

leaping into existence,

dancing to

symphonic

winds,

have you noticed?

Trees,

they could just lay there,

but no,

they stand up

all

day

long,

proclaiming beauty in

leaves, branches

and monumental trunks.

Not exactly shy,

are they?

A thousand birds

have a

thousand ways

of singing the same song

of love.

There are reasons

you have

ears.

All of these are God,

jumping up and down,

waving His arms,

trying to get us to see

how

much

we’re

loved.

Every morning

ten thousand new galaxies.

By three,

a dozen new species

taking first breath.

Toward evening,

an ocean,

falling from the sky,

pouring itself into

a million

grateful mouths.

All that

and the Divine

still

has

time

for

kisses.

For a hundred thousand miles

God’s been in the back seat,

smiling and shouting,

“Can I drive? Can I drive? Can I drive?”

“No! Not when the road’s so bumpy”,

I always say.

Maybe

that’s

why

the

road’s

so

bumpy.

O

O sadness,

come,

I will hold you

in my tender warmth,

tell you stories

of diamonds and coal,

sunlight and clouds,

winter and spring.

Bring me your weary feet

for rubbing,

your tangled hair

for stroking,

your beautiful ears,

for songs of love.

You are my precious, honored guest.

My finest linens,

my freshest bread,

yours.

In your pockets

is the love

you seem to have lost.

Let’s look there,

together.

There are so many ways the Divine kisses the earth.

The wind is a kiss, sometimes only

the slightest of pecks, just enough to make leaves tremble with desire.

Sometimes an all out smooch throws paint for sunsets into the sky.

Sunlight is a kiss, so is the rain.

God is in a continual state of pucker,

ready

your

cheek.
